BERRY PIE

I created this unique branding featuring a mixed berry pie for an employee event hosted by Seattle-based Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. It was distributed on flyers around the office and in internal announcements.

Branding for a DEI event featuring an illustration of mixed berry pie and the words "Together at the Table."

In one of my earlier drafts (below), I tried overlaying flags on cherries. While it looked nice, we quickly realized we didn’t want to limit this subset of countries, and risk leaving some out. We also wanted to represent identities as well as nationalities. And the cherry pie is very American symbol. The group’s feedback was helpful and encouraged me to think about some alternative designs would be more inclusive and diverse.

The mixed berry pie seems to be a good solution, and reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest. Washington is the largest producer of raspberries in the country. Blackberries, salmonberries, huckleberries and blueberries grow wild here. I haven’t tried baking a mixed berry pie with a lattice top, but I can imagine it would be delicious (I must be hungry!).

I rendered the final art in Procreate, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
